Multifunctional Carbon Materials Group

The Multifunctional Carbon Materials Group (GMCM) focuses on the development and application of carbon-based materials with tunable properties to address environmental and technological challenges. Led by Lucas Spessato de Souza and Vitor de Cinque Almeida, the group’s central research theme is the understanding and control of interfacial phenomena based on the principles of Surface Physical Chemistry. Our research involves the synthesis and modification of activated carbons, carbon nanomaterials, and hybrid materials. These materials are investigated and applied in adsorption, heterogeneous catalysis, and, more recently, energy storage, seeking solutions based on the rational control of porous structure and surface chemistry.
